Mary Martha Marcy May DVD Review

I Watched The DVD Mary Martha Marcy May last night and I must 

say that it left me hanging quite badly.

I did not really enjoy this movie, I actually expected more out of it.

I saw a couple of movies that exploited the cult topic before and this one just did not do it for me. The acting was ok, but the story was not so strong.  For me going from the present to 3 months ago, and coming back and forth is very annoying.  

It's the story of a girl named Mary that joins a group of young people who live together under the supervision of one adult, which to me forms a cult. 

You see the men eating together while the girls wait and only get to eat after what is left over.  They only get to eat at night time.  They work the land, and knit blankets that they sell in town to make money.  But you see them stealing in homes too.  Wow talk about family values.  When the girls are new they go through a ritual of cleansing they call it, with a drink made by the older girls that puts them to sleep and then the older guy goes to them and rapes them, that's what I call it. But in their cult life, what the man does is very right.

And then at some point you see all the young men and women making love together in one room, while the older man is watching them with a funny looking eye probably a perverted eye. I tell you this movie is quite disturbing.

So eventually this Mary makes a phone call to her sister to come and get her.

And then she goes off to live with her sister. Mary starts having dreams and have visions of her old life with the cult and cannot make the difference between reality and dreams.
Mary cannot seem to re-assimilate a normal life after these months of abusive behavior from her cult life and companions from where she escaped.

So after months of problems between Mary, her sister's boyfriend and her sister,

Mary's sister decides to take Mary to a clinic up in town to see if the doctors can help her.

And on her way there you see a car and a guy that resembles the older man that ran the cult approaching

the car that Mary is in at fast speed as if it were to collide and then the film stops.

What kind of an end is this?

I was quite pissed.

I'm happy for one thing, I didn't have to pay to see this movie.

Don't build your hopes up too high for this movie.

Actually the previews looked good but that's it.

On a scale up to 10, I give it a 5.
