Here we are today with a super talented lady who makes diverse creations.
And I must say that each one I see in her shop seems more beautiful then the other.
I only wish I had one of her piece to review for you guys then I could really see and feel the lovelyness of her work but this is a last minute feature so I have to rely on what I see from the shop and I must say that I am pretty positive that I would be 100% satisfied with one of any of her exquisite creations.
You have to go and take a look at Tissage and you too will be amazed at all the lovelies you'll find in there.
Tory wasn't even born and was already creating something: Her coming out into this world, her mother and father must have been really proud parents and still are.
''I studied painting in France, weaving in Italy and sculpture in college. I am currently finishing my doctorate in Medieval Literature. To balance the academic part of my life, I make all sorts of things, from jewelry to stained glass to iron sculpture. I've recently started making hats. Every time I ick up a new skill or hobby, my friends all roll their eyes, but then they start requesting things.''

In her shop there is a choice of jewelry, bridal jewelry, hats, scarves and purses.
And from what I can see, she excels in pretty much all the domains.
so on to the interview with Tory Browning

What's your name?
Tory Browning
Where are you from?
I'm originally from Cleveland, Ohio, but I've lived in Seattle for 8 years
What has gotten you interested in your craft?
I've always made things and I've picked up skills over the years. My Mother had taken a beading class and she showed me the basics a few years ago. In college I taught myself how to knit from a book. I took a hat making class a couple of years ago and I've been hooked on that every since.

What's the item you're most proud of? I'd have to say this hat:
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=13424955It took about 80 hours just to do the embroidery and I'm really pleased with how it came out. I have a tremendous amount of patience for inanimate objects. My patience with people is more limited.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
For jewelry, I draw inspiration from the beads and vintage pieces themselves. If I find a great rhinestone earring I'll design a necklace with it in my head as I'm falling asleep that night. It's dangerous for me to go bead shopping because I fall in love with so much of what's available. For my hats, I'm inspired the the same vintage aesthetic that I use in a lot of my jewelry. I like to make things that are romantic but also very wearable, so I make a lot of cloches. I'm hoping that if I make enough fabulous hats then hats will suddenly come back into fashion.
What is your process?
It really begins with the materials, be they yarn or felt or a vintage brooch. I don't sketch or anything, but I do think about the design extensively before I start. I also like the challenge of working with what I have, rather than buying new supplies to fit the piece I'm working on. So if I have a felt that I want to make into a hat but the color is just not working for me I'll dye it instead of buying a new felt. If I have a vintage brooch and I don't have any beads in a matching color, I try color pairings that I wouldn't have thought of otherwise.

Is your craft full time? If not, what do you do to pay the bills?
I'm actually at the dissertation end of a doctorate in medieval literature. For the past several years I've taught medieval literature and expository writing at a local university, but I'm taking some time off now to work on my dissertation. I'm grateful that my artistic skills pay SOME of the bills.
What do you do in your spare time?
Spare time? Who said anything about spare time?
What are your goals for your business?
I would love to continue to grow my business so that more people see my work and I get to spend a significant amount of my time on my artistic work. Ideally I would love to pay all the bills with this business, but I also love to teach literature and I'm planning on going back to that at some point.
Anything else you would like to share with my readers?
